This week we contacted a lot of people and shot our first interview.
Our first interview was with Wilson, who was recently caught dumpster diving. We think this could make a really good story for our doco. He's very busy but managed to fit us in after school on Wednesday. We had to do the filming at school, though, because he had Jazz band after. We decided that the seminar room would be a light, quiet place to film. But we were very rushed and I don't think the shot came out GREAT. Also we did half the interview before Paloma realised she hadn't turned the mic on :) But when we repeated the interview Wilson was more relaxed, so I think it wasn't such a bad thing.
We went down to Abel Smith Street to ask if anybody would give us an interview about Food Not Bombs and /or dumpster diving. We talked to a young guy who told us to come back tomorrow afternoon when there would be some people home who would be happy to talk to us. I also texted Anya's friend Holly and arranged to meet her at People's Coffee in Newtown on Thursday for a pre-interview. Paloma has also texted Wilson's brother Jo, but so far we have'nt heard anything from him. I think all our arrangements are going really well and I'm very confident that we will get all the footage we need. And probably more.
Looked at the footage - totally unusable. The lighting is over exposed, making Wilson look washed out. The camera angle was very odd, giving an unattractive aesthetic that we just couldn't accept. We thought about just using the audio, but we do need the video, so have decided to reshoot. We've set up a time with Wilson to go to his house and shoot.
We have also been talking to Dylan about a friend of his (Scotty) who he is going to interview for his doco. Scotty is a regular dumpster diver and uses the food to do good in the community, which is an angle we want to take - how people use dumpster diving in a way that benefits the whole community.
